MWCCI President’s Address
Welcome to the 2016 Mid West Business and Community Directory, this edition continues to provide a comprehensive and detailed register of local businesses, suppliers & service providers.
With new opportunities on the horizon for the Mid West, current projects increasing in scope and new developments planned for future regional growth, there’s never been a better time to be a part of the Mid West Business community.
Our annual Business Excellence Awards celebrated its 20th year with a Golden Event held in June 2015 and hosted well over 300 guests. A huge congratulations to all of the finalists and winners, in particular GG Pumps and Electrical for taking out the award for Business of the Year.
Last year the celebration of outstanding customer service was recognised all year round, and not just included in our annual event. In collaboration with the City of Greater Geraldton, the Chamber opened online nominations in October 2014 and invited companies, organisations and members of the community to nominate individual service providers who go that extra mile.
The success of this initiative was demonstrated by the high number of nominations received. We look forward to continuing this initiative in 2015/16 on a bigger and better scale.
The 2015 Mid West Economic & Resources Summit (MWERS) was aptly themed “New Agenda for Prosperity” which saw a host of speakers present on regional “game-changers”, the business landscape, digital economy and International partnerships.
The MWERS hosted key decision-makers, policy and industry leaders who presented on the most pertinent opportunities and challenges that face our region’s industries and business community. The event also incorporated interactive panel sessions where State, national, science and industry representatives mixed with our local business and regional leaders to discuss what all this means to our region and how we take on the opportunities and challenges we face to redefine our New Agenda for Prosperity.
The 2016 Mid West Economic & Resources Summit will see a very diverse program developed following the very positive feedback we received on the broad range of topics and speakers involved in the 2015 event.
The Regional Networks & Business Development Program continues despite a reduction in sponsorship for this program, we have prioritised and scaled back the activities undertaken within the program throughout the year. However, all events that we did hold, were received and very well attended.
We have successfully applied and received funding, and completed business directory signage and a related app for the Dongara Denison area. We thank the Mid West Development Commission, Shire of Irwin, Rotary Club of Batavia Coast and local businesses for working with us to make this project a great success.
We have and will continue to assist businesses with listing their capabilities on the Project Connect database, and direct project proponents to members as they develop up their projects.
A new initiative established by MWCCI has been the Key Advantage Membership level. A tailored package developed to enhance the success of MWCCI Membership Companies by creating direct access to major industry players and project proponents, facilitating cooperative approaches to removing barriers of entry and tackling the business development priorities of our Key Advantage member group. Through this group & the closely aligned business leaders forum, we have achieved a unified support of key development priorities with the Mid West Development Commission, City of Greater Geraldton and major regional agencies, which will benefit Geraldton businesses into the future.
The Chamber has participated strongly in the development of this Mid West Business Development Strategy, which is designed to support the development of small to medium enterprise in our region.
The strategy is in final stages and recommends implementing around 6 new programs or projects that would deliver benefits to businesses in all industry sectors and across our vast regional area.
The MWCCI believes that with the strong cooperative relationships that have been established in this region, our outstanding regional diversity, natural competitive advantages and highly capable business sector, we are on the cusp of exciting new times for our region.
I would like to encourage all businesses to join the MWCCI, we are here to support the business community and foster an environment in which opportunities are made readily available to grow your business. We seek to aid in providing you with stability and leadership in a new economy, so that you can get on with creating the prosperity we all depend on. I would like to thank our current members & sponsors for your ongoing support, together, we will continue to ride out new challenges and emerge stronger and more competitive than ever before.
Let’s work together to build a prosperous community within the Mid West in 2016.
